Take it out
Lift from the heel side. Clips release by pulling straight up.

Rinse
Hose or shower. Mild soap for grease or salt crust.

Wipe or air dry. Refit only once dry to avoid trapped water.

Skip the shine
No silicone dressing or tire shine: it makes the surface slippery under pedals.
